ELIGIBILITY
Dallas Concealed Handgun Class Do I qualify? You must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be at least 21 years old (18 if in the military/honorably discharged).
  2. Must have been a resident of Texas for the last 6 months.
  3. May be a non-resident if you are the legal resident of another state who meets the eligibility criteria other than residency, but you must take the class in Texas.
  4. Can’t have ever been convicted of a felony.
  5. Can’t be currently charged with the commission of a Felony, Class A misdemeanor, Class B misdemeanor, or Disorderly Conduct.
  6. Can’t be a fugitive from Justice.
  7. Can’t be a chemically dependent person.
  8. Must be capable of exercising sound judgment with respect to the proper use and storage of a handgun.
  9. Can’t have been convicted in the previous 5 years before the date of application of a Class A or B misdemeanor or Disorderly Conduct.
  10. You must be qualified under state and federal law to purchase a handgun.
  11. Can’t have been found in court to be in default on Child Support.
  12. Can’t have been found in court to be delinquent in the payment of taxes collected by the Comptroller, state treasurer, tax collector of a political subdivision, Alcoholic Beverage Commission, or any other agency or subdivision.
  13. Can’t have been found in court to be in default on a Student Loan.
  14. Can’t be currently restricted under a protective order or restraining order affecting a spousal relationship.
  15. Can’t have been adjudicated as having engaged in delinquent conduct violating a felony-grade law within 10 years of the date of application.
  16. Can’t have made any material misrepresentations in the application to DPS or failed to disclose anything pertinent.
  17. Can’t be considered to be a person of "unsound mind" (no, Aggies are not included in this.)
